Promote Wanda, WIC’s virtual assistant

Wanda is the New York State Department of Health’s new WIC virtual assistant. In a friendly and conversational tone, Wanda asks potential participants questions that prescreen for WIC eligibility. In less than three minutes, families can learn about WIC services, find out if they may be eligible, and get referrals to WIC clinics near them. Wanda is easy to use on a computer, tablet or phone.

Toolkit: WIC Remote Benefits and $24-47 Fruit and Veggie Benefit

Use this toolkit to promote two temporary but important WIC flexibilities—the cash value benefit (CVB) increase and remote services.

CVB increase: through the end of September, most WIC moms and kids get $24-47/month to buy fruits and veggies—3-4 times more than before.

Remote benefits: WIC waivers and flexibilities associated with the COVID-19 pandemic have been extended through at least mid-October, 2022. WIC agencies are allowed to issue benefits remotely so participants don’t have to pick up their WIC benefits in person. Participants may enroll or re-enroll in WIC without visiting a clinic in person and postpone certain medical tests. Specifically, clinics may serve participants remotely via telephone, text or videoconference, and remotely load WIC benefits onto eWIC cards.
