SNAP and Seniors Professional Network

Hunger Solutions New York is excited to announce the launch of the SNAP and Seniors Professional Network, a new initiative dedicated to alleviating hunger among New York State’s seniors. SNAP helps seniors get enough to eat, improving their nutrition and food security, yet nearly 200,000 eligible older New Yorkers do not receive benefits. The SNAP and Seniors Professional Network aims to close that gap by connecting service providers with the tools they need to assist seniors with applying for and maintaining SNAP benefits.

Network members will receive:

  • The latest SNAP policy updates,
  • Education and outreach materials,
  • Invitations to webinars and presentations, and
  • Resources designed to help them maximize SNAP benefits for the seniors they serve.

The Network also provides a forum for advocates and professionals to engage in a state-focused conversation about combatting senior hunger and share best practices to increase SNAP participation among eligible seniors.

The SNAP & Seniors Professional Network provides a one-stop shop for SNAP policy, best practices, outreach materials, and resources to help providers connect seniors to SNAP.

Later this year, New York State will implement a much-anticipated new project to streamline the SNAP application and enrollment process for those over 60. With big changes ahead in the rules that govern senior access to SNAP, Network membership guarantees your place at the forefront of a statewide effort to bring SNAP to increasing numbers of low-income seniors. The SNAP and Seniors Professional Network is committed to promoting this roll-out and connecting members with the tools and resources needed to put it into practice.

Membership is free and open to any provider or organization committed to the health and well-being of seniors, including senior service providers, home-delivered meal providers, community-based organizations, local and state government offices, medical providers, home health agencies, and more.

We invite you to join us in working together to ensure that every eligible senior in New York State receives SNAP benefits.
