An original research article published online in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) shows that SNAP participants have approximately $1,400 lower heath care costs over a year compared to individuals not enrolled in the federal nutrition program. The authors conclude that while not a healthcare program, SNAP has an effect on healthcare spending for those who use the program to help meet their monthly nutritional needs. ¬†This article highlights SNAP’s role in aiding in better health and nutrition.
