Hunger Solutions New York is proud to have received an honorable mention for the National AfterSchool Association’s 2017 Most Influential in Health and Wellness award. Honorees and honorable mentions are distinguished for their strong advocacy for and support of health and wellness in afterschool programming.
To ensure children who rely on school meals have the nutrition they need once the school day ends, in 2016, our organization began working in partnership with the NYS Network for Youth Success, experts in afterschool care, to increase afterschool programs’ participation in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). We also work in partnership with the Early Care and Learning Council, to promote the use of CACFP in childcare settings.
CACFP helps to ensure children receive quality nutrition while in childcare and afterschool programs, helping to alleviate hunger and support wellbeing and academic achievement. The program provides reimbursement and training to eligible care providers serving healthy meals and snacks to children enrolled in day care centers, home-based childcare settings, afterschool programs, and emergency shelters. For more information on our CACFP work, visit AfterschoolMealsNY.org.
The National Afterschool Association’s mission is to foster development, provide education, and encourage advocacy for the out-of-school-time community.
Our organization was nominated for the award by the NYS Network for Youth Success.
