The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has updated the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) meal patterns to better align with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Among other changes, the updated meal patterns encourage programs and providers to serve more whole grains, offer a greater variety of fruits and vegetables, and limit added sugars and saturated fat. The changes come into effect October 1, 2017, though some NYS sponsors may implement the new meal patterns earlier if approved to do so by NYS Department of Health (NYS DOH).
