An original research article published online in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) shows that SNAP participants have approximately $1,400 lower heath care costs over a year compared to individuals not enrolled in the federal nutrition program. The authors conclude that while not a healthcare program, SNAP has an effect on healthcare spending for those who use the program to help meet their monthly nutritional needs.  This article highlights SNAP’s role in aiding in better health and nutrition.
