Hunger Solutions New York Releases Annual Report on Statewide School Breakfast Participation

ALBANY, NY – Hunger Solutions New York today released its annual statewide report on school breakfast participation, School Breakfast: Reducing Child Hunger, Bolstering Student Success, at a School Breakfast Week celebration at the New York State Museum, held in conjunction with the American Dairy Association and Dairy Council, and the New York School Nutrition Association.

The report, which includes county- and district-level statistics for New York State’s public schools, is based on data provided by the New York State Education Department. It reveals that the number of free and reduced-price breakfasts served through the School Breakfast Program (SBP) has increased since the 2013-2014 school year, however, the percentage of low-income children who participated in the program actually decreased, despite a growing number who qualify.
