Federal Update on SNAP Cuts in President's FY 2018 Budget Proposal

June 19, 2017

The president’s FY 2018 budget proposes $193 billion in cuts to SNAP over the next 10 years. These cuts, which would slash SNAP by an unprecedented 25 percent, will dismantle a proven and effective program that provides a path out of hunger and poverty for millions of New Yorkers.

Hunger Solutions New York is deeply concerned about the impact of these proposed cuts to SNAP. While we know that this specific proposal is subject to negotiation, any attack on SNAP will increase hunger and poverty in NYS.  We are writing to you to share tools and resources for understanding the proposed cuts, provide some NYS specific resources and encourage you to take action to protect and defend SNAP throughout the federal budget process.
