New Website for CACFP Childcare & Afterschool Meals
Hunger Solutions New York has launched ChildCareMealsNY.org, a website where care providers can learn about the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). The site includes resources and information about the program’s benefits and how it works, from eligibility and meal pattern requirements to the application process. ChildCareMealsNY.org can also be accessed via the URL AfterschoolMealsNY.org.
CACFP is a federally funded nutrition program offering per-meal reimbursements and meal planning guidance to help providers serve nutritious meals and snacks to children and teens in their care. It is available in a wide range of settings, including day care centers, home-based childcare settings, and afterschool programs. Participating in CACFP benefits everyone: children get a nutritional boost at no added cost to their families, and providers receive reimbursements to help offset the cost of buying and serving complete, nutritious meals.
In 2016, Hunger Solutions New York entered into a five-year contract with the New York State Office of Child and Family Services to conduct outreach and increase participation in CACFP. Project partners are the Early Care and Learning Council and the New York State Network for Youth Success. The CACFP outreach project partners work in collaboration with New York State Department of Health CACFP staff.
Organizations interested in applying for CACFP can email firstname.lastname@example.org, using the subject line “Outreach Coordinator,” or call (518) 402-7400. Programs and providers can also use the NYS Department of Health’s CACFP prescreening tool to determine if they may be eligible, and to start the application process.
